NAIROBI (Halbeeg News) – The United States Embassy has announced the arrest of one of the Narcotics and Wildlife Trafficking suspect who had a 1-million-dollar bounty on his head.
According to Chargé d’Affaires Eric Kneedler, Badru Abdul Aziz Saleh was arrested following a tip-off from the public received by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and is in police custody in Nairobi.
“We welcome the news that Aziz Saleh has been captured. This would not have been possible without the public’s support. Abdi Hussein Ahmed is still out there, and I continue to appeal to the public for information leading to his arrest,” Kneedler stated.
His accomplice, Abdi Hussein Ahmed, is however still at large.
Authorities say the two men also trafficked tons of elephant ivory.
The arrest comes barely four days after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the US Embassy in Nairobi released his photo, which was splashed in the media.
In June 2021, following a joint investigation by the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), a federal grand jury in the Southern District of New York returned an indictment charging Saleh and other conspirators with conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin, which carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment.
