MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – A stand off has sparked between Puntland regional leaders days after deputy president Puntland, Ahmed Karaash state assumed executive powers.
Said Abdullahi Deni yesterday dismissed a degree issued by his deputy to appoint some officials, ordering any directives by Karash to be termed as invalid.
“I hereby declare that any decree issued by the Vice President Puntland while I am in the country Somalia shall not apply. Therefore, I urge all government agencies to carry out their duties and not comply with any decree inconsistent with the Constitution and other regulations of the Government Puntland as stated in Article 138, paragraph 2 of the Puntland Constitution,.”
Deni’s decree comes as Karash took over the role of the Puntland Presidency following Said Abdullahi Deni’s arrival in Mogadishu to vie for the Somali Presidency.
The remarks of Deni comes after Karash appointed Faysal Sheikh Ali Mohamed as the governor of the Mudug region.
In sharp rejoinder, Karaash insisted that he had the right authority to run the administration.
“I commend the people of Puntland for their deep understanding of the Puntland Constitution. Therefore, while respecting and abiding by the Puntland Constitution and the laws of the land,” Karaash said.
