Hargeisa (Halbeeg News) – Somaliland authorities in Hargeisa town have today free 12 journalists who were arrested mid this month.
The reporters working for local independent media stations were covering an attempted prison break in Hargeisa, which was deemed as one of the most daring attempted escapes in the region.
The security forces — including police and intelligence officers — arrested a group of at least 15 journalists, working for local private media outlets and two international outlets.
The detained journalists’ colleagues said that none of them had been produced in court.
The 12 journalists who were released this morning are:
1. Aydaruus Mohamed Goobjoog TV
2. Hassan Saleban Hariin Galeydh (BBC Somalia)
3. Ahmed Mohamud Yusuf (Saab TV),
4. Ahmed Nur Samrawi (Bulsho TV)
5. Mohamed Jamaal (MM Somali TV),
6. Khalid Alleedi (Horn Cable TV)
7. Ahmed Simaali (Horn Cable TV)
8. Mohamed Sultan (Horn Cable TV)
And four others whose names have not yet displayed.
Those still behind the bars are Mohamed Abdi Sheikh (Ilig), Abdijibar Mohamed Hussein and a reporter for Gobonimo TV.
Somaliland authorities have did not elaborate on the reason for keeping them still in the detention.
