MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Unknown number of candidates eyeing to Somalia’s senate leadership will today register with the committee assigned to manage the election.
According to the committee, the candidates will be given clearance cerficates to run for the position of the senate speaker.
Monday’s resolution passed by both lower andupper house members had directed the candidates seek the speakership to pay fees of $20,000 while those eyeing the deputy speakers will deposit 15,000 USD.
The election of the Upper House will take place on 27th April.
The election of the Lower House will also be held on 26 of this month. The fees to run for the leadership of the lower house is same as that of the Upper House.
Initial registration fees of the house speaker was 15,000 USD while that of the deputy speaker was 10,000 USD.
Candidates willing to vie for the presidency will have to deposite 40,000 USD registration fees, which 10,000 USD more than what was paid last election.
The country’s members of parliament expected elect the next president as early as May.
