MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – United Nations (UN) has condemned al-Shabaab attack on Halane base, a fortified facility hosting number of international embassies, organizations and African Union troops.
In a statement, UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed his deep condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery for the injured. He calls for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.
The UN boss expressed the full solidarity and support of the United Nations with the Government and the people of Somalia in their fight against terrorism.
He reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to supporting them towards peace and security in Somalia.
The deadly attacks on compounds located inside the Aden Adde International Airport area in Mogadishu claimed the lives of six people among them three foreign military trainers.
Al-Shabaab claimed the responsibility for the attack, saying its target was the foreigners.
Hours after the attack in Mogadishu, two suicide bomb explosions rocked Beledweyne, a town in central Somalia.
The first explosion which took place near the regional presidential palace in Beledweyne town killed Amina Mohamed Abdi, an outgoing lawmaker who was in the town to seek re-election.
Minutes later, another one shook the town, killing a former MP and injuring several others including a former education minister.
