MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein has held talks with Turkish ambassador Mehmet Yilmiz over humanitarian assistance amid severe drought is ravaging the country.
According to statement by OPM, Roble and Yilmiz focused on ways to support the drought affected people in south and central Somalia.
The officials also discussed Turkish private sector investments and other aspects of Somalia.
Somalia is in the grip of a drought that has left one in four people facing acute hunger, according to UN estimates.
UN is warning that 4.1 million people – a quarter of the Somali population – need urgent food aid.
The UN in its 2022 Somalia Humanitarian Response Plan, seeks to raise nearly 1.5 billion U.S. dollars to provide humanitarian assistance to 5.5 million vulnerable people, including 1.6 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), 3.9 million non-IDPs, and people with disabilities.
