MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali government forces have killed at least five al-Shabaab fighters after fierce fighting with the group’s combatants in Hudur town of southern Somalia.
According to Somali military officials who spoke to the military-owned media, al-Shabaab fighters on Tuesday stormed the Somali military base, prompting hours-long hours-long fighting.
“Somali military managed to neutralize five militants and several wounded in fighting near our base in Hudur town. The terrorist group attempted to attack our base but they were repelled,” a military official told SNA radio.
The attack came hours after Somali forces claimed to have killed ten Al-Shabaab fighters and wounded several others in Yontoy, Raynerow and Farbulay of the Lower Jubba region.
The forces also claimed to destroy a base belonging to al-Shabaab.
Recently, Somali forces have intensified operations against Al-Shabaab fighters in central and southern Somalia.
