MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Four countries neighbouring Ukraine had allowed safe passage for Somalis who are still in Ukraine, Somali ministry for foreign affairs confirmed.
In a statement, the ministry said the nation has reached agreement with Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Moldova.
“The Federal Republic of Somalia would like to inform its nationals in Ukraine that neighboring countries such as Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Moldova, and Romania have assured all Somali nationals will be given safe passage and arrangements have been made to deal with the influx of persons fleeing from Ukraine,” the statement reads in part.
The Ministry further noted Somali embassies in Berlin and Brussels were in ‘constant communication’ with the 280 Somali nationals in Ukraine.
The statement said Somalia will be sending official representatives to support Somali nationals with the correct identification cards to cross the borders.
With the heavy fighting Russian forces and Ukrain soldiers intensifying, hundreds of Somalis including students and traders are stranded in different towns in Ukraine.
