MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) –
Somali government has ruled out that it would annul decisions by the country’s election dispute resolution committee and the parliamentary seats cleared by the committee would be valid.
In a statement, the government spokesman Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimow said there would be no reversal of decisions made by the electoral dispute resolution committee, following the removal of the chairman and some others.
The remarks of the spokesperson came hours after the opposition leaders called for the annulment of decisions made the Electoral Disputes Committee.
Among the decision reached by the committee was the validation the election of Somali Intel chief Yasin Farey as MP following complaints by some of the candidates.
Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein on Saturday sacked seven members of the Dispute Resolution Committee including the body’s chairperson.
According to the office of the PM, the members were sacked for failing to uphold their independence and for using their position for purposes outside the responsibility entrusted with them.
The dismissal of these members came after PM Roble held talks with the regional state leaders and the opposition over grievances related to alleged election irregularities.
The committee dismissed accusations of bias in handling electoral disputes before them.
“We are making it clear that we do not have a group, we do not serve a specific system, we do not serve a specific group. We serve to sort out the lawmakers or candidates who are dissatisfied with the election results, “the Dispute Resolution Committee said.
