BAIDOA (Halbeeg News) – Abdullahi Adan Ahmed (Black) was this afternoon elected MP in the ongoing Lower House elections in South state.
Black who is a freshman was contested with Abdikadir Mohamed Ali (Engineer Bashi) in the election for seat HOP193 in Baidoa town in southern Somalia.
According to Southwest State Indirect Elections Team (SEIT), Black garnered 66 votes while his opponent Engineer Bashi got 31 votes. Three votes were spoilt.
Seat HOP193 was held by the late Mohamud Mohamed Bono in the 10th parliament.
The South West Administration has so far elected 10 seats, with Jubbaland, Hir-Shabelle and Puntland administrations yet to begin holding Parliamentary elections.
Today’s comes hours after Somali prime minister and five regional state leaders held talks over the ongoing Lower House elections following pressure from opposition leaders.
A statement from the Office of the Prime Minister noted that the PM Prime Minister urged the FMS leader to ensure that the elections are transparent and conveyed the concerns and grievances earlier raised by the Council of Presidential Candidates (CPC).
The statement also noted that the presidents of Puntland, Jubaland and Hirshabelle committed to starting elections in their respective territories soon.
