MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Several al-Shabaab suspects have been arrested following thorough security operations by Somali forces in northern Mogadishu.
In a statement, Somalia’s national intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has announced that its forces seized ammunition and explosives in the Suqa-Holaha locality.
“Our forces arrested several al-Shabaab fighters and seized a cache of weapons including weapons following security operations in Suq-Hoola village,” the statement reads in part.
The agency lauded the public, saying the public worked hand in hand during the operation.
“The forces were greatly helped by the public. We urged our people to work with the security forces,” the agency said.
The development comes hours after three al-Shabaab fighters surrendered to the Somali military in Wajid town of Bakool region in southern Somalia.
Al-Shabaab lost control of the Somali capital in 2011 after days long fierce fighting with Somali forces backed by troops of the African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom).
