MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Three al-Shabaab members have today surrendered to Somali national army in southern Somalia, the state owned media confirmed.
According to Somali National Television (SNTV), the trio whose were not yet disclosed contacted military commanders in Wajid town of Bakool to facilitate their defection.
“Three Al-shabab operatives have surrendered to #Somali National Army in #Wajid district of #Bakool region on Sunday. These fighters who denounced the terror-group’s ideology had made contacts with commanders before they arrived in town,” brief statement posted by SNTV reads.
The development comes barely two weeks after Somali forces foiled al-Shabaab attack on Hudur town.
Somali military claimed to have killed several al-Shabab militants in clashes and recovered weapons.
Bodies of five al-Shabaab fighters who were killed in the fighting were displayed in the centre of the town.
