JIGJIGA (Halbeeg News) – The president of Ethiopia’s Somali regional state, Mustafa Omar Agjar has included a couple in his new cabinet less than a week after Agjar won his second term of presidency.
In a statement issued on Friday, President Agjar unveiled a 57-member cabinet including a husband and his wife, an unprecedented move in the region.
Warsan Awil was appointed the minister of natural resources while her husband, Abokor Daakir was picked as deputy minister of irrigation.
Agjar led the Somali branch of the Prosperity Party (S-PP) to electoral victory.
The regional parliament also made history by electing Ayaan Abdi as the speaker, the first woman to hold that position, while Ibrahim Ali will now become the deputy speaker.
