MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somalia and Azerbaijan have agreed to boost their relations following a meeting between Somali trade minister Khalif Abdi Omar and Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov on the sidelines of a high-level meeting marking the 60th anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Belgrade.
In a statement, Azerbaijan foreign ministry said the ministers discussed various issues on the bilateral cooperation agenda, including the successful continuation of political dialogue.
“Following a long discussion, the officials emphasized the need to scale up the cooperation between the countries and improve bilateral trade level for the betterment of the two countries,” the ministry said.
According to the statement, Minister Khalif praised Azerbaijan’s successful chairmanship of the NAM and the initiatives of global importance put forward by the President of Azerbaijan as the chairman of the NAM in the fight against the pandemic.
Khalif stressed the importance of the special session of the General Assembly dedicated to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, initiated by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
