MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – A district official was killed and several of his bodyguards were injured after a vehicle they were travelling in ran over an improvised explosive device suspected to have been planted on the road.
Somali information ministry said the official who was the deputy in charge of security and political affairs in Daynile district succumbed to blast injuries.
“Terrorist attack using a landmine killed on Tuesday, Daynile Deputy District Commissioner Abdi Mohamed Mohamud,” the statement reads in part.
Al-Shabaab militant group has claimed the responsibility for the attack.
The attack comes barely days after unidentified men killed Mohamed Abdi Hayle, the Commissioner of Hamar Jajab district was killed by armed men on the outskirt of Somali capital.
