MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali prime minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has held his first meeting with US ambassador Somalia barely hours after he officially took office.

In a statement, US embassy in Mogadishu, Roble and Donald Yamamoto emphasis the need to hold the elections on time.
“Delighted to congratulate @MohamedHRoble on his confirmation as Somalia’s SomaliPM. We agreed today on the importance of timely implementation of the election agreement, good governance, and continued economic and security reform,” Yamamoto said in the statement.
Roble, a humanitarian worker and a newcomer to Somalia’s political landscape officially assumed office as Somalia’s prime minister on Sunday following the ceremony held at the presidential palace in Mogadishu.
He pledged to create an effective government which will address some of the key challenges facing the Horn of Africa nation, among them holding fair presidential and parliamentary elections.
Somalia’s parliament this week approved the electoral model reached by President Mohamed Farmaajo and leaders from the five federal states this month.
The agreement was approved with 252 MPs voting for it while one voted against it. Two legislators abstained. It means that Somalia’s next elections will retain some bits used in the 2016 elections.
Each of the 275 MPs will be elected by 101 delegates nominated jointly by the clan elders and the electoral body.
