HARGEISA ( Halbeeg News) – Somaliland authorities have deported nine United Arab Emirates citizens from its territory on Saturday.
The Emiratis were arrested last week for the illegal hunting-related case.
According to local media, the men paid USD 10,000 as a penalty before their deportation for breaking the laws.
Pictures of the men hunting outside Hargeisa were circulated online earlier in November before their arrest by the police.
They were held in custody for days before their release hence deportation.
Authorities in Somaliland have stepped up efforts to curb illegal trafficking of wild animals.
Several people were arrested last month after they were found with possession of cheetah cubs which are sought as exotic pets in Persian Gulf countries.
Game animals’ rights Activists warn that wild animals such as cheetahs are in peril in the Horn of Africa.
