MOGADISHU ( Halbeeg News) – The Federal Government of Somalia has strongly denied that A Kenyan delegation that attended the inauguration of Jubbaland state leader, Ahmed Mohamed Islam had authorization from Mogadishu.
Speaking in Mogadishu during a press conference, Minister for Information, Mohamed Abdi Hayir Mareye dismissed what he termed as the claims by Kenyan foreign affairs permanent secretary, ambassador Mucharia Kamau.
Ambassador Kamau claimed the Nairobi delegation led by the leader of the majority, Aden Barre Duale attended the inauguration ceremony in Kismayo on 12th October with Mogadishu’s consent.
“The Kenyan delegation on the plane to Kismayo had no permission from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” Mareye said.
Somalia filed a complaint to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) over the violation of its airspace by Kenya registered aircraft that was carrying the delegation that attended the inauguration of the disputed election of Jubbaland leader, Ahmed Islam last month.
All passenger planes to all parts of the country from outside the country were directed by Somali civil aviation authority to make a stopover at Aden Abdulle International Airport in Mogadishu before proceeding their journey.
If found guilty for airspace violation, Kenya might lose voting rights at the prestigious UN body.
