MOGADISHU ( Halbeeg News) – The state of Qatar delivered much needed humanitarian supplies for flood victims to the Somali government on Monday.
Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Kuwari, Director General, Qatar Fund for Development handed over 42 tons’ supplies transported from Doha by Emir air force transport plane to Federal government of Somalia officials led by the Minister for Emergency and Humanitarian assistance, Hamza Saed Hamza.
Speaking at Aden Abdulle International Airport in Mogadishu, Minister Hamza said the supplies will be immediately delivered to affected areas mainly in Hiran, Bay and Gedo regions.
They include medicine, tents, mosquito nets, and nutritional food items.
The most affected families are approximately 51000 households in Beledweyn according to the government which will get the first priority.
Other towns affected by the flooding include Bardere, Bardale, and Gobweyn.
Ongoing torrential rains across the country resulted in river Shabelle to burst its banks causing severe flooding mainly in the agricultural towns in middle Shabelle, Bay, Gedo and Lower Juba regions.
An emergency rescue committee composed of cabinet members was established to coordinate relief efforts.
