NAIROBI (Halbeeg News) – Kenya government has started an investigation into a company offering air services after a series of incidents involved in planes belonged to Silverstone Air.
According to a statement by KCAA, the investigation of the incidents and accidents is being conducted by the Air Accident Investigation Department (AAID) of the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development, and Public Works.
“The audit is being performed to determine the level of compliance with the current Civil Aviation regulations and their own company approved manuals and procedures,” said KCAA Director General Capt. Gilbert Kibe.
On Monday, a plane of Silverstone Air caused a scare after a wheel dropped off midair, moments after take-off from Lodwar airstrip in Turkana County.
The rear right wheel came off the plane like a stone and dropped outside the airstrip located some 500 kilometers from the capital Nairobi.
The Bombardier Dash 8-300, registration number 5YBWG, had four passengers and five crew members on board.
Within a span of 3 weeks, the airline has had two major incidents, the first one when its plane with 55 people on board skid off the runway at Nairobi’s Wilson airport during taking off, leaving some 9 people with injuries.
