ADDIS ABABA (Halbeeg News) – The leaders from Somali and Afar regions in Ethiopia agreed to hold talks to end hostility between the communities following meeting Ethiopian PM.
In a meeting with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, both sides pledged to bring the leaders from the communities to the negotiating table.
The prime minister has urged both sides to maintain stability and resolve their differences in a peaceful way.
The remarks and the meeting come amid deadly clashes over border areas between Afar and Somali regions.
Clashes between armed elements in Afar and Somali regional states have been recurring in recent months promoting protest demonstrations from both sides
Last May, eleven civilians, many of whom pastoralists, were killed by members of the Afar regional state special forces.
