GARISSA ( Halbeeg News) – At least 11 Kenyan police officers have been killed and several others sustained injuries after their vehicle hit IED near Garissa town.
The officers were traveling along Damajale Harehare road Saturday evening when they were targeted with an improvised explosive device (IED).
The Toyota Land Cruiser which ran over an IED had been badly damaged.
The targeted officers were from Harhar GSU Camp near the Kenya-Somalia border.
Speaking to the local media, the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai said the officers were on patrol.
“We lost some officers and the vehicle they were traveling on was damaged,” the police boss said.
Mumbai declined to comment on the injuries saying the number will be confirmed later.
The official stated they have deployed reinforcement to hunt down the perpetrators.
The officers dispatched were drawn from Kenya Defense Forces, Administration Police, Rapid Response Police Unit and Kenya Police Service.
