MOGADISHU ( Halbeeg News) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Ahmed Isse Awad, received credentials from the new representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Somalia, Mr. Johann Siffointe on Wednesday.
The two sides discussed ways to coordinate efforts between the Somali government and UNHCR to achieve the highest humanitarian priorities for the resettlement of returnees and provide them with the necessary support.
Ambassador Ahmed Isse Awad stressed the significance of continued cooperation between the Federal Government of Somalia and the UNHCR to enhance the humanitarian work carried out by UNHCR at home, pointing out to ensure the voluntary repatriation of Somali refugees from Kenya and Yemen and create a better environment and higher standards of living.
The meeting was attended by Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, HE Amb. Said Haji Mohamud, Protocol Director, Adv. Hersi Haji Olosow, Deputy Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Somalia, Mr. Takeshi Moriyama, and other officials.
