MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali government on Saturday mourned the death of former foreign minister who was killed in Mogadishu blast last month.
In a statement, the foreign ministry said it held memorial service for Hussein Elabe Fahiye.
Late Fahiye, who former Somali foreign minister was among five killed on 22nd May when a car bomb exploded at the checkpoint.
Speaking at the service ceremony, Deputy Minister of Finance, Abdullahi Sheikh Ali said late Haybe took a vital role in previous government he served.
“He played very important role as coordinator of a government humanitarian campaign in 1974 to transfer about half a million of the population of Somalia from the north and the central regions to areas in the south to save them from the severe drought that was called ”abaartii daba-dheer” because of its impact on vast areas of the country,” he said.
Somali Minister of Finance, Abdirahman Dualeh Beileh, stressed the national principles adopted by the late Hussein Elabe during his career in planning, finance and diplomacy, which laid a beautiful path for the functions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Hussain Elabe Fahiye became Somalia’s 13th foreign minister in 2007.
He has also served as minister for both the Ministries of Livestock and the Welfare of Disabled and Orphans of the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia between 2005 and 2007.
He was director general of the Ministry of National Planning for more than 12 years during the Somali central government led by President Mohamed Siad Barre.
