MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – The Commander of the special Danab forces in Lower Shabelle Major Abdirahman Sheikh Omar Jeeniqaar has vowed that the forces will increase operations against al-Shabaab fighters in Lower Shabelle region.
Speaking to the media, Jeeniqaar said operations would kick off in the forthcoming days in several villages held by al-Shabaab.
Among the towns to raid are Aw-Dhegle, villages near Janaale town.
“The forces are in their final preparations to recapture several areas in the region. We will keep on moving until the group is eradicated,” he told local radio station.
Jeeniqaar stated that the army has also started security operations to hunt down sleep cells in the recently liberated villages.
“We are trying to single out al-Shabaab sympathizers from the public; some people secretly work with the group; therefore the operation is meant to foil the planning of the group,” he said.
The commander called on the public to collaborate with forces in the fight against al-Shabaab fighters.
Somali forces backed by African Union Mission In Somalia (AMISOM) has been carrying out attacks to recapture towns and villages from al-Shabaab.
Last month, the army seized Sabiid, Anole and Barire in successive operations.
