NAIROBI (Halbeeg News) – The Kenyan military said its troops killed three al-Shabaab fighters and captured one after a gun battle with heavily armed militants of al-Shabaab on Somalia’s border with Kenya.
According to the statement, Kenya Defence ministry, the gunfight took place on Wednesday in Bura Hache town in Gedo region.
The ministry says the forces seized two AK 47 rifles, one SLR rifle, and assorted ammunition.
Kenyan Military spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Paul Njuguna stated that the incident occurred during security patrol by Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) working under the framework of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
“KDF soldiers will remain vigilant and continue to relentlessly pursue the terrorists to ensure peace and security in Kenya,” the statement reads in part.
He added that they would continue to back Amisom operations as part of the bid to stabilise Somalia.
The move comes barely a day after al-Shabaab suspects attacked a restaurant in Dobley town with a hand grenade.
The attack caused injuries of three Kenyan construction workers.
On its online affiliate media, al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack.
