MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) –The mayor of Mogadishu who also doubles up as the governor of Banadir region, Abdirahman Omar Osman (Eng. Yarisow) has revoked licenses hold by private entities for former Somali navy base.
Banadir Regional Administration has issued a directive regarding the Base of the Navy located in Abdiaziz district as well as the house of the naval forces’ commander.
Engineer Yarisow said the move by private entities to acquire the government land was illegal and contrary to the law in the first place.
“This regulation revokes and nullifies all the documents that had been illegally possessed for this land since it was meant for public ownership,” he said.
Mogadishu mayor added that the area adjacent to the navy base is diplomatic zone and set aside for the international organizations to operate in a new master plan for the city.
“We are here to inform all and sundry that the Base of the Navy Forces and the House of the Navy Commander and all the adjacent lands behind, as well as all the lands alongside the Beach, remain a diplomatic zone and premises, which had previously been a governmental land meant for public ownership,” the mayor said.
“The motive of this plan is to allow the embassies and the international organizations operating in the country to secure a proper operational zone and to revive the beauty of the city in which many diplomats are due to work from,” he added.
The governor of Banadir urged government agencies under the Federal Government of Somalia to halt the issuing of a license for public lands while approving them for construction.
