ADDIS ABABA (Halbeeg News)-The heads of state and government of Somalia and Ethiopia have discussed ways to strengthen the existing regional cooperation in the Horn of Africa.
President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and Abiy Ahmed Ali meet in Addis Ababa on Tuesday to discuss the strengthening of regional peace, according to the press statement by the office of the Ethiopian prime minister.
“Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed held bilateral discussions with the Somali President H.E. Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed at his office today,” the statement confirmed.
The two leaders reiterated the significance of strengthening the relations between Mogadishu and Nairobi further amid their differences on the disputed maritime border.
“The discussions focused on four key issues including the strengthening of regional peace per the agreements signed previously; mechanisms to ensure Kenya-Somali relations are strengthened,” reads the statement in parts.
Mogadishu and Addis Ababa highlighted their commitment to regional integration through economic development. The cooperation between the federal government of Somalia and the Somaliland administration was also discussed.
“The continuation of joint port development; and ensuring that relations with the administration of Somaliland support regional peace,” the statement said
