BELEDWEYN (Halbeeg News)-Unidentified warplanes have targeted armed group al-Shabaab bases in Hiiraan region on Monday.
The strikes suspected to be carried out by the US drones targeted militants’ targets in Orod village near the city of Beledweyne.
Two vehicles with fighters were destroyed during the attack targeted on the Al Qaida linked armed group according to senior Somali security official captain Arab Yusuf Nur who is based in Beledweyne.
“Two vehicles with fighters were destroyed in the airstrike during the attack,” captain Arab confirmed to Halbeeg news.
He added that two civilians also lost their lives in the strike after the vehicle they were traveling in was stopped in al-Shabaab manned checkpoint before hitting by an airstrike.
Somali special forces backed by US troops have also intensified planned operations against the targets of the armed al-Shabaab in the south of the country.
At least two al-Shabaab fighters have been killed in four airstrikes in Southern Somalia, AFRICOM confirmed.
In a statement released on Sunday, U.S. Africa Command said the attacks eliminated checkpoints and facilities manned by al-Shabaab.
According to the statement, the facilities destroyed had been barely used by the militants to collect taxes to finance its fight against the Somali government
