NAIROBI (Halbeeg News)-The Kenyan cabinet has approved the formation of a Counter-Improvised Explosive Device(C-IED) Centre in the capital, Nairobi.
The approval comes following the German government’s pledge to donate 1.8 million Euros for the construction of the C-IED Centre.
The C-IED Centre which will be a Constituent College of the International Peace Support Training Centre will help equip the Kenyan Defence Forces personnel with the knowledge and technology to detect and safely disarm IEDs robustly.
The project is expected to reduce increased IED attacks inside the country carried out by the armed group al-Shabaab in retaliation for the incursion of Kenyan military invasion of Somalia since 2011.
More than twenty-one people were killed and scores others were wounded during recent deadly attack targeted on DusitD2 hotel in the capital, Nairobi in which IED devices are believed to have been used.
Ten people have since been arraigned in court in connection to the attack.
