MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News)-Somalis have taken to the social media on Friday in their reaction to Qatari player Akram Afif, whose outstanding performance led his Qatari side win its first Asian cup against Japan.
The 22 years old winger who currently plays as a forward for Al Sadd on loan from Spanish club Villarreal provided two assists while scoring a goal through penalty ceasing his team first Asian cup win against Japan.
The young player who is considered to be one of the most promising players to emerge from Qatar is the son of former Somali national team player, Hassan Afif Yahya.
“Akram Afif, the son of former Somali national football team player, Hassan Afif makes Qatar and Somalia proud,” wrote Mohammed Kahiye in a Facebook post shortly after the end of the match.
“Congrats to Qatar and Somalia for winning 2019 Asian cup, we are all Akram Afif,” tweeted Hassan Istiila.
“Looking forward to your visit home in Mogadishu, our son,” he added.
Afif senior played for the national team between 1972 to 1980 before migrating to Qatar for soccer talent.
