MOGADISHU (Halbeeg) – Two main Somaliland political parties, Kulmiye, and UCID political have agreed to be held the Parliamentary and local government elections at the end of 2019.
In a statement, the ruling, party KULMIYE, and its counterpart UCID said the two inked an agreement to the effect that Parliamentary elections should take place in November this year.
According to the agreement, current Electoral Commision will preside over parliamentary elections.
UCID and Kulmiye vowed to oppose any postponement beyond the agreed date in the communique.
The House of the representatives is to expected discussed the joint agreement by the two parties.
The House of Elders has the powers to extend the parliamentary terms and local councils if political parties fail to agree on a poll date.
Somaliland’s third political party which several times opposed any election delay has not yet commented on the deal between the parties.
