BAIDOA(Halbeeg News)-The first round of voting process of Southwest presidential election was concluded.
Five candidates namely Adan Mohamed Nur (Soransoor), Hussein Osman Hussein, Ibrahim Maalim Nurow, Seyid Ahmed Sheikh Dahir and Abdulaziz Hassan Mohamed have taken part in the election.
149 lawmakers were in attendance during the first round of voting exercise.
The poll agency of Southwest has announced the results of the first round of the voting process. Below is the result declared by the committee.
Adan Mohamed Nur (Soransoor)-22
Hussein Osman Hussein-3
Ibrahim Moalim Nurow- 6
Sayid Ahmed Sheikh Dahir- 4
Abdulaziz Hasaan Mohamed Lafta Gareen- 101
13 votes were rejected according to the committee.
The committee has declared Abdiaziz Mohamed Hassan Lafta Gareen as the second president of Southwest state.
The new president of Southwest state, Abdiaziz Mohamed Hassan Lafta Gareen was sworn in immediately after he was declared president.
The president elect, Lafta Gareen promised to improve security, reconciliation and better education during his service.
He thanked the members of the regional parliament for giving their votes.
Former energy minister resigned on November to run for the regional office.
Security is one of the main challenges that his new administration needs to tackle since several major parts of the state is still controlled by Al- shabaab.
