MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – The Federal government of Somalia has suspended Sahan research company from operating in the country on Monday for national security reasons.
Statement from the Ministry of Internal Security prohibited all government and non-governmental organisation to conduct business with Sahan Research saying that the think tank is involved in activities that are a threat to national security, the unity of the people and the federal government of Somalia.
“Based on information submitted by the security agencies that are investigating the Sahan research company, the ministry of internal security suspends and banned Sahan from operating in the country due to issues related to the national security,” the statement reads in part.
The ministry also prohibits organisation to do any business with the firm adding that any organisation that violates the directives will face the law.
“Any organisation or persons that violate the prohibition will face full force according to the law, ” the statement reads.
Sahan is a think tank research company with a primary focus on political analysis and security dynamics in the horn of Africa, East Africa, and the Middle East.
A Canadian national leads it; Matthew Bryden who worked for several aids and political organisations in Somalia.
He also served as the Coordinator for the UN Monitoring Group on Somalia and Eritrea (SEMG) from 2008-2012.
