MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – The President of Eritrea, Isaias Afwerki has arrived in the capital of Somalia, Mogadishu this morning.
Upon arrival, the Eritrean delegation led by President Afwerki was welcomed by his counterpart President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo at Aden Abdulle International Airport.
The Eritrean leader and his delegation were also greeted by hundreds of Somali citizens dressed in traditional attire by waving the flags of the two states.
The visit is a follow up to advance the tripartite talks between Somalia, Ethiopia, and Eritrea on 10th November to cement cooperation on peace, economic and trade relations.
Villa Somalia said the visit by President Afwerki to Somalia bears significance on bilateral relations and shows how the countries are determined to advance their cooperation.
Both Eritrea and Somalia have not had diplomatic ties for nearly 15 years in particular, because of Asmara’s alleged support for Al-Shabaab.
