MOGADISHU(Halbeeg-News)-The upper house of the federal parliament of Somalia has unanimously approved the bill to establish a national disability agency on Wednesday.
All 31 members of the house who were present during the vote through a show of hands have supported the bill to proceed.
The bill submitted to the house by the ministry of women and human rights passed first reading last week in the upper house after similar approval by the lower house earlier.
Women and human rights affairs minister, Deko Yasin Hajji, has thanked the two houses for speeding up the approval process.
“Special thanks go to both the members of the upper and lower house of the people for approval the crucial bill,” she said.
She underlined that her ministry will now focus the final step for presidential assent before full implementation of the bill.
“We will now move forward to present to the head of state for presidential assent,” minister Deko added.
After presidential assent which is likely, the implementation process will start through funding from the national budget.
The national independent disability agency will safeguard the interest of the disabled citizens in the country through access to government services such as education, health and live supporting projects via regional offices across the country.
