BAIDOA(Halbeeg-News)-The security agencies in the Southwest capital of Baidoa have caught vehicle carrying explosives on Tuesday.
Police said they recovered three hand grenades hidden inside a sack with grains after the search.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested in the event but maintained his innocence arguing he had nothing to do with the weapons.
The vehicle was initially from Rama Cadey, Bakol region.
Southwest security minister, Hassan Hussein Elay, thanked the security departments for the job well done.
Mr. Elay called upon the members of the public to closely cooperate with the security agencies to improve security.
“I urge members of the public to cooperate with the security agencies,” he said.
“We will reward the officers that captured the vehicle laden with explosives,” he added.
Baidoa, the administrative capital of the Southwest state of Somalia is gearing up to host the election of regional president next week.
More than hundred Somali federal police officers were deployed weeks ago to beef up the security of the city.
Politicians from the region have dismissed the move saying it is an attempt by the government to interfere with the election.
