RIYADH(Halbeeg-News)-The king of Saudi Arabia has invited the Emir of Qatar to the upcoming Gulf Cooperation Council meeting in Riyadh.
According to the Qatar News Agency the invitation was delivered by the secretary general of the GCC Abdullatif Bin Rashid Al Zayani who is Bahraini national.
This is the first official communications between the two oil rich neighbouring Arab states since Saudi led coalition severed diplomatic ties following blockade on June last year.
Led by the kingdom of the Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain and Egypt Riyadh imposed land, air and sea blockade on the tiny rich country for what they accused Qatar of giving supporting terror related activities in the region.
It is not immediately clear if Sheikh Tamim will respond to the invitation and attend the summit in Riyadh on December 9.
The invitation comes just one day after Qatar ditched its membership of organisation of petroleum producing countries OPEC citing monopoly in the giant organisation by Riyadh.
Middle East analysts believe the move is also significant since Riyadh is experiencing international pressure driven by Qatar based Aljazeera network on the murder of Journalist Jamal Khashoggi murder in Istanbul consulate.
