MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Three Inter-governmental organizations have condemned Friday’s deadly bombings in the Somali capital Mogadishu.
Over 20 people died and 45 others sustained injuries after three vehicles laden with explosives detonated near a popular hotel which is not far away from the country’s CID headquarters.
In a statement attributable to his Deputy Spokesman Farhan Haq, the Secretary-General reiterated “the support and solidarity of the United Nations with the people and Federal Government of Somalia in this endeavor.”
The Secretary-General “sends his profound condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured,” said the statement.
In separate press statements, European Union and Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have also strongly condemned the bombings that hit Mogadishu.
The OIC Secretary General, Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen termed the attacks the explosions as a criminal act aimed at destabilizing security and stability in Somalia, stressing the Organization’s full solidarity with the Somali government in its war against terrorism.
Maja Kocijancic, EU Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs has extended the bloc’s sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the wounded.
“Mutual solidarity and unity is essential to defeat terrorism and construct a brighter future for the population of Somalia. At this critical moment for the country, the EU reaffirms its continued commitment to stand by the Somali people to build a stable Somalia,” said Kocijancic.
