MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Former Deputy Al-Shabaab leader, Mukhtar Robow has been cleared to run for November 17 Southwest presidential election after presenting his papers to the electoral committee.
Mr. Robow was issued a nomination certificate by Arfe Ibrahim Adan, chairperson of Southwest Electoral commission
He was accompanied by his several running mates who were also cleared to take part in the election.
Mukhtar Robow, also known as Abu Mansour, was the target of a $5 million US bounty before he defected from the Islamist group in 2013 and surrendered to the Somali government last year.
Robow will be coming up against an incumbent, Sharif Hassan Sheikh Aden, and other aspirants.
Robow who is believed to be around 50 years old, says he entered the political race after being approached by voters in his hometown.
