MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Kheire on Tuesday formed a ministerial committee tasked to work on the process to address concerns of regional states.
Since last month, the regional states were at loggerheads with Somali federal government over security and political approaches.
In a statement, Prime minister Kheire said the committee will work with Somali Upper House in addressing concerns by the federal member states.
The members of the committee include:
– Somali minister for Interior Abdi Mohamed Sabriye.
– minister for Finance, Abdirahman Duale Beileh.
– Minister for security, Mohamed Abukar Islow.
– Minister for Constitution, Abdirahman Hosh Jibril.
The appointment comes barely three days after the Senate notice called on the government to respond to the concerns raised by the regional states.
On 17th of last Month, the five regional presidents — Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas (Puntland), Ahmed Duale Gelle (Galmudug), Mohamed Abdi Ware (Hirshabelle), Sharif Hassan Sheikh Aden (South West State) and Sheikh Ahmed Madobe of Jubbaland — announced their decision to cut off their cooperation with the federal government.
“The Council expresses its concerns the deepening political crisis and growing differences among the major stakeholders of Somalia. The interference in the internal affairs of the federal member states clearly undermine the constitutionally mandated separations of powers,” they said in a statement.
