NAIROBI (Halbeeg News) – A Kenyan police vehicle reportedly ran over a roadside bomb in Mandera County near Kenya-Somalia border.
The blast which happened on Tuesday evening took place along Arabia-Fino road.
A local official in Mandera who spoke to Halbeeg News confirmed the explosion saying two police officers were injured in the blast.
“Two officers were injured in the explosion. We suspect that it was roadside Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) but the investigation is still underway,” the official who spoke on condition of anonymity told Halbeeg News.
No group has yet claimed the responsibility for the attack.
The attack comes a day after Kenya security agencies on high alert following intelligence reports which indicated that Al Shabaab could be planning a major attack on areas near Kenya’s border with Somalia.
The Intelligence reports noted that Al-Shabaab fighters have set up a plan to attack KDF and police camps in Mandera county.
Last week, suspected Al-Shabaab fighters killed two non-local teachers in a dawn attack on Arabia Boys Secondary School in Arabia town.
Kenya security agencies have identified the mastermind of the attack as Hassan Hodey.
