MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali military court today sentenced two Al-Shabaab fighters to jail terms of between three to eight years after it found them guilty of belonging to the group.
The military Court based in Mogadishu declared the two namely Mohamed Abdi Salad and Ga’al Mohamed Ali guilty of joining Al-Shabaab and being active members of the group’s hit squad known ‘Amniyat’.
Mr. Ga’al who has been Al-Shabaab member since 2015 was found guilty of sneaking into Mogadishu intending to collect information for the militants.
He was arrested on February 13, 2018, by security officers in an operation.
The other defendant, Mohamed Abdi Salad was arrested April 18, 2017, by the security forces.
In defence, Mr. Salad who reportedly was operating in Mogadishu as a barber denied all allegations levelled against him.
Mohamed Abdi Salad was handed eight-year jail term while the remaining one got three years behind bars.
The verdict comes barely two days after this court sentenced a police officer to eight years in jail over robberies with violence.
Constable Mohamed Abdikarim Abdullahi was found guilty of forcefully robbing residents in Hodan district of Mogadishu.
The officer was convicted for committing series of armed robberies during dawn prayers at one of the neighbourhoods in Hodan district.
