MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Former Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s allies are in the process of registering their new party Wednesday Halbeeg has learnt.
Early this month, Mr. Mohamud launched a new political party that he intends to use for the next presidential election which is scheduled to take place in the country by 2020.
Records at Somalia’s National Independent Electoral Commission show that the partners applied for the registration of Union For Peace and Development (UPD).
Sources close to the party leaders separately confirmed that the top leaders of the UPD are registering the party to pave the way for its mission.
This happened only less than a week after the newly formed political alliance party has changed its name from Union for Peace and Democracy (UPD) after it was accused of illegally using political entity.
In an event aiming at unveiling the party, its leadership announced that they have changed the name of the party to Union for Peace and Development, but retained the same UPD acronym.
The alliance party comprising three political parties, Daljir and Horusocod and Peace and Development Party (PDP).
Two weeks ago, the members of alliances elected former President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to lead to the party for next six month before its members elect a new chairman next year.
