MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – The U.S. military says it has carried out an airstrike in southern Somalia that killed one Al-Shabaab fighter.
A statement on Wednesday from the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) says the attack took place on Saturday in Kunyo Barrow village in the Lower Shabelle region.
The strike was conducted “in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia,” Africom said in the statement.
Africom vowed that U.S. forces will continue to use all authorized and appropriate measures to protect Americans and disable terrorist threats.
“This includes partnering with AMISOM and Somali National Security Forces (SNSF); targeting terrorists, their training camps and safe havens throughout Somalia, the region and around the world,” the military noted.
Last week, U.S. airstrike was carried out after Al-Shabaab attacked Somali government forces about 40 kilometers northeast of Kismayo in Lower Juba region.
The airstrike killed nine suspected Al-Shabaab fighters and injured another, according to Africom.
