MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali and the African Union mission forces will kick off operations to open the main roads linking the capital to the Southwest parts of the country.
Sadiiq Warfaa, the secretary of Somali Parliamentary Defense Committee who to spoke CTGN said the Somali National Army (SNA) troops supported by AMISOM will intensify security operations to flush out Al-Shabab in the Horn of Africa nation.
He pointed out that the operations would be undertaken to improve the general security of the areas, enhance free movement of the local population and enable an environment for trade to thrive.
“We are implementing the transition plan…. The first phase of the plan was to take over Mogadishu Stadium (and) that is completed already, the second phase is to clear the road between Mogadishu and Leego,” he said.
The lawmaker reiterated that the government is committed to build the capacity of its army to bring stability in the Horn of Africa nation.
“This year, We are at the last stages of rebuilding our national army and soon our security forces will take over our security issues,” Mr. Warfaa affirmed.
He lauded African Union Mission for its commitment and sacrifice to restore peace in Somalia.
“I want to pay tribute those who paid the ultimate price and died while defending Somalia. I also want to thank African Union Mission for contributing the stability in our country,” he said.
The pan African troops are expected to relinquish the security of the key towns to the Somali forces, through a conditions-based transition plan, to allow them to take the lead responsibility as part of the planned exit.
