MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – The government of Kosovo has expressed its wish to new diplomatic relations with Somalia.
In a meeting held in New York on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly, Kosovo Foreign Minister, Behgjet Pacolli and his Somali counterpart, Ahmed Awad Issa discussed means to re-establish the bilateral relations between the two countries.
“I had a great meeting with #Somalia MofaSomalia Ahmed Isse Awad on the good relations Kosovo & #Somalia enjoy and we explored the common interest our countries have to work together. #Kosovo is grateful to #Somalia for its international support,” Mr. Pacolli said in a Twitter post.
Somali National News Agency (SONNA) reported that the two ministers talked about enhancing relations between the two countries.
Mr. Pacolli has thanked Somalia for its decision to recognise Kosovo as an independent nation.
During the meeting, Kosovo Foreign Minister, Behgjet Pacolli said his government was ready to accept if Somalia proposes having a new embassy in Prishtina, the capital city of Kosovo.
In 2010, the Somali government announced its decision to recognise Kosovo’s declaration of independence.
According to statement post the official page of Kosovo foreign Ministry, Somalia’s decision came as a result of an official request for recognition by leaders of the young nation.
Kosovo declared independence in 2008 after its democratically elected leaders unanimously declared Kosovo to be independent from Serbia.
