GAROWE (Halbeeg News) – Puntland Minister for Environment, Ali Abdullahi Warsame resigned on Saturday citing lack of security and economic crisis.
In a statement to the newsrooms, Mr. Warsame said he could no longer work as minister over what he termed as ” bad economy and security lapse
“Puntland government led by President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali has failed to obtain its targets and faced an economic crisis and lack of security. The state also faces a chronic political and leadership crisis. Therefore, I hereby declare that I am officially resigning from the post of the Minister for Environment,” the statement reads in part.
He noted the political crisis which is now running for several months is posing security and economic challenges to the region.
Mr. Warsame blamed the incumbent President for failing to handle the economic challenges.
The state has been struggling to resolve the economic and security crisis since last year when hundreds of its forces and civil servants to streets to protest against overdue salaries.
Puntland, a region in northeastern Somalia, declared itself to be semi-autonomous from Somalia in 1998.
Since then the region has been calm and had a functioning constitutional government with its own security forces.
