MOGADISHU( Halbeeg News)– Somali president, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has summoned Galmudug leaders to an emergency meeting in Mogadishu aimed to mediate the current political crisis of the state in the central region.
The reconciliation conference meant to resolve the difference between the rival sides is scheduled to start in Mogadishu on 24th September.
“I am hopeful that all the concerned sides will compromise and show political consensus, bring the general interest before the personal interest so as to speed up the government’s effort to resolve [ crisis] and finalize the agreements signed earlier by Galmudug leaders” reads a statement from the office of the president.
The president called on the sides to go far from any action that jeopardize the efforts aimed to resolve the impasse.
On the other hand, president Farmajo expressed concerns over bloody fighting between clan militias that claimed lives in the Central region.
Over 10 people were killed and scores wounded in a renewed clan clashes in Dhacdheer locality in Galgadud region. The clashes are attributed to revenge and argument over grazing land.
May this year, the federal government of Somalia has resolved a similar political stalemate between Galmudug leaders that emerged following a dispute over power sharing deal which was aimed to end the division in the regional administration brokered by IGAD in Djibouti.
Speaking at a press conference in Mogadishu, the interior minister of federal government, Abdi Mohamed Sabriye said the federal government is working on a reconciliation conference to resolve the differences between the sides.
“The government is worried about the renewed political conflict in Galmudug. We call for a lasting solution for the standoff to move Somalia towards the path of sustainable peace and development” said the minister.
