MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somalia will assume chairmanship of Arab Foreign Ministers Council next year, the foreign ministry said Friday.
The country joined the Arab League in 1974 during the payday of the revolutionary military regime led by late President Mohamed Siyad Barre.
Somali ministry for Foreign Affairs said the country will chair 151th Session of the Arab Foreign Ministers Council.
“Somalia is officially assuming the chairmanship of the 151st session of Arab Foreign Ministers Council,” Somali ministry for Foreign Affairs said in a Twitter post.
The move will give Somalia chance to host the next session of Arab Foreign Ministers Council set to take place early 2019 in Mogadishu.
Arab League was formed in Cairo, Egypt on 22nd March 1945 with only six members including Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Syria.
In 2015, the country Igad’s 53rd ministerial meeting which took place in the Somali capital, Mogadishu for the first in 30 years.
